Development and empowerment for humanity was founded in 2004, and since then the organization has been expanding continuously in terms of social development services. It is registered with the federal government and several state governments in Somalia as a non-governmental, non-religious, and not-for-profit organization.  it has worked for the promotion of sustainable, equitable, and participatory development, social welfare, and social justice through programs for nutrition, food security & livelihood, water sanitation and health (wash); education; gender mainstreaming; human rights, transparency, and accountability. The focus has been on the disadvantaged and marginalized sections of societies, such as women, children, and minority groups. To directly implement our broader activities in the whole of south-central Somalia, DEH has established its main office in Mogadishu (Hodan district) and a field office in Mudug (Haradheere and Hobyo), Galgadud region (Adaado) and lower Shabelle region (Afgoye). DEH also has a liaison office in Nairobi (Kenya) to coordinate all administrative, logistical, and financial operations.
